The Schoolhouse Community Service Day Saturday 24 July 2010 at the Schoolhouse Once a year we say our thank you to the village of Mutianyu by donating a day of labor by our entire staff. We close to the public for this day. But our guests are welcome to join in and we serve a complimentary late lunch to all participants. Come out and make a difference!
Happy Birthday Schoolhouse! Saturday 4 & 5 September 2010 at the Schoolhouse Every year on the anniversary of our opening we like to say a special thank you to our guests. You have sustained our business and allowed us to continue to contribute to our community. This year we offer a free ice cream cone made with your choice of our homemade flavors to every guest who visits during our birthday celebration. Our ice creams and fruit sorbets are made in small batches with no chemical additives or stabilizers.
Moon Festival -- Authentic Mid-Autumn Feast Wednesday 22 September 2010 at Xiaolumian Every year people the world over mark harvest time. In Yingbeigou we are close to nature and, along with our village neighbors, we celebrate the Moon Festival with a feast at Xiaolumian. Red lanterns, moon viewing, crisp fall evening, honest food, live folk music. One year it rained and we all crowded into our little peasant's hut and somehow the food and company were even better. Share a traditional Chinese holiday with your family and friends -- an adventure they're sure to remember. We also have several rental homes near Xiaolumian so why not make a weekend of it? This event was sold out in 2009 so we suggest you mark your calendars and book early.
Halloween Saturday 30 October 2010 at the Schoolhouse Jack-o-Lantern Carving Contest in the afternoon -- one for kids and one for big kids. Big kids can win a free night in the China Countryside Hotels guest home of their choice. Enjoy the display in the evening along with our annual caviar country dinner at The Schoolhouse.

Christmas Eve Supper & Carolling Friday 24 December 2010 at the Schoolhouse Come out to the Great Wall at Mutianyu for (hopefully) a White Christmas and stay at one of our guest homes or book a cozy room in our inn. Cook your own dinner or join us for our annual Christmas Eve Supper served fireside in The Smithy. Later in the evening everyone is welcome to join for carolling. New Year's Eve Dinner Dance Friday 31 December 2010 at the Schoolhouse Imagine ringing out 2011 at the Great Wall of China. Stay in a luxurious guest home from China Countryside Hotels or a lush room at the Brickyard Inn. Crisp linens, Singing Wine Glasses, fresh flowers, and dancing candlelight complement Chef Randhir's fusion menu based on fresh and seasonal ingredients. Imagine this -- Under the Great Wall of China!
Country Gourmet Dinners at The Schoolhouse Since its inception The Schoolhouse has sought to use homegrown, local, and seasonal ingredients to create fusion dinners for discerning guests. Each menu is personally developed by Executive Chef Randhir Singh. Country Gourmet dinners are limited to no more than 24 guests.. The dinners are served in The Smithy, outdoors on the Upper Terrace, or in another special venue and start with a welcome drink while the guests gather for an intimate evening. There is live jazz and Country Gourmet dinners are served with signature linens and using glass service ware, including Schoolhouse Art Glass's own Singing Wine Glasses.

Saturday Night Movies at The Schoolhouse Nothing beats the magic of watching a good movie with family and friends. Wild Side Noodle Making at Xiaolumian The Mutianyu Great Wall area is a fantastic place to take hikes through the villages, orchards, hills, and even the Wild Wall. Go where you heart takes you during the afternoon and enjoy the incomparable surroundings. Schoolhouse partners will be on hand to explain how they transformed a smoke-belching kiln into a lush eco-retreat. Marvel at the original tile work incorporated into the custom murals and native slate flooring.. Get a tour of the rooms, each with window walls and spectacular panoramic views of the Great Wall. Saturday 3 April 2010 at the Schoolhouse Surrounding Bohai Township includes over twenty villages nestled underneath the Great Wall, and is filled with forested valleys and stunning mountain passes – just the setting for a remarkable day of bike riding! Our charity event will cater to veteran riders and children alike. Past intern Audrey Gueho biked all over Bohai and outlined the township’s twelve best routes. Her newly published guidebook Biking Bohaiwill be available, and all participants will get dedicated T-shirts. Unfortunately we can’t give out free bikes; Bohai or Bust is a BYOB – bring your own bike – event. But we will be raising money for the township’s communities. All participants are asked to gather donations for each kilometer ridden – the Schoolhouse will help you match your donations with corporate subscriptions. All proceeds will go the Bohai charity fund. Why not book a home or a room and make a weekend of it while having the ride of your life, under the Great Wall!

Slow Food is the antithesis to large-scale commercial food production and today's fast-food culture. Slow Food brings back the joy in eating, and encourages us to connect over food. Friday 24 December 2010 at the Schoolhouse Christmas Eve Supper & Carolling Come out to the Great Wall at Mutianyu for (hopefully) a White Christmas and stay in one of our guest homes. Cook your own dinner or join us for our annual Christmas Eve Supper served fireside in The Smithy. Later in the evening everyone is welcome to join for carolling.. Free hot chocolate and Christmas goodies for all carollers. Christmas at the Wall is very popular so we suggest you book early.
