Our ice creams and fruit sorbets are made in small batches with no chemical additives or stabilizers.
Moon Festival -- Authentic Mid-Autumn Feast

Every year people the world over mark harvest time. In Yingbeigou we are close to nature and, along with our village neighbors, we celebrate the Moon Festival with a feast at Xiaolumian. Red lanterns, moon viewing, crisp fall evening, honest food, live folk music. One year it rained and we all crowded into our little peasant's hut and somehow the food and company were even better. Share a traditional Chinese holiday with your family and friends -- an adventure they're sure to remember. We also have several rental homes near Xiaolumian so why not make a weekend of it? This event was sold out in 2009 so we suggest you mark your calendars and book early.

Country Gourmet Dinners at The Schoolhouse
Since its inception The Schoolhouse has sought to use homegrown, local, and seasonal ingredients to create fusion dinners for discerning guests. Each menu is personally developed by Executive Chef Randhir Singh. Country Gourmet dinners are limited to no more than 24 guests.. The dinners are served in The Smithy, outdoors on the Upper Terrace, or in another special venue and start with a welcome drink while the guests gather for an intimate evening. There is live jazz and Country Gourmet dinners are served with signature linens and using glass service ware, including Schoolhouse Art Glass's own Singing Wine Glasses.

Wild Side Noodle Making at Xiaolumian
The Mutianyu Great Wall area is a fantastic place to take hikes through the villages, orchards, hills, and even the Wild Wall. Go where you heart takes you during the afternoon and enjoy the incomparable surroundings. But in the evening make sure to gather at Xiaolumian, a weathered stone farmhouse set in its own chestnut orchard in the remote village of Yingbeigou. What a difference a 60 minute drive from the city makes! Take part in our noodle-making class and then enjoy a village repast, topped off with your own homemade noodles and a generous hot pot. And if you can't get enough of the fresh air, stay in a China Countryside Hotels rental home or a room at the Brickyard Inn and watch the stars come out.

Bohai or Bust Charity Bicycle Ride
The Schoolhouse and The China Charity Challenge are proud to host the first-ever Bohai or Bust Charity Bike Ride on Saturday 3 April. Spring is such a great time to get out under the blue skies, and our surrounding Bohai Township is filled with forested valleys and stunning mountain passes. Just the setting for a remarkable day of bike riding! One hundred percent of proceeds will be donated to the elderly and needy folks in our community – registration is RMB 100 for adults, RMB 50 for children.
Bohai or Bust will get started at 10:00 at The Roadhouse. Each registered rider receives a Bohai or Bust tee shirt, a safety booklet courtesy of our sponsors at the International School of Beijing, as well as a copy of our new guidebook Biking Bohai, which contains 12 routes that range from easy (suitable for families with kids) to challenging (you'd better be in shape!). We will have three group rides led by our guides, or you can select the route or routes that suit you and go exploring at your own pace with friends and family. Some of the rides end up in hidden local restaurants, or you can carry your picnic lunch with you ...
Riders will meet back at The Roadhouse at 15:00 for free beer, soft drinks, food and a lucky draw for prizes from our generous sponsors.. Prizes range from Maison Boulud brunch vouchers to Hias Gourmet gift certificates, to a brand new bike courtesy of Trek bicycles.

Bohai or Bust Charity Bicycle Ride
Surrounding Bohai Township includes over twenty villages nestled underneath the Great Wall, and is filled with forested valleys and stunning mountain passes – just the setting for a remarkable day of bike riding! Our charity event will cater to veteran riders and children alike. Past intern Audrey Gueho biked all over Bohai and outlined the township’s twelve best routes. Her newly published guidebook Biking Bohai will be available, and all participants will get dedicated T-shirts. Bohai or Bust is a BYOB – bring your own bike – event. But one lucky participant will get a free bicycle at day’s end, courtesy of Trek bikes!
We will be raising money for our local community. All participants will be asked to contribute an Rmb 100 entrance fee – The Schoolhouse will help you match your donations with corporate subscriptions. All proceeds will go to the Mutianyu Village Fund. Why not book a home or a room and make a weekend of it while having the ride of your life, under the Great Wall!

Slow Food Saturday
The Slow Food movement is all about preserving cultural cuisine, and in doing so preserving local foods, farming and ways of life. Slow Food is the antithesis to large-scale commercial food production and today's fast-food culture. Slow Food brings back the joy in eating, and encourages us to connect over food. That is what we plan to do all day Saturday, as we tour the Great Wall International Cultural Villages of Mutianyu, Beigou, Xinying and Tianxianyu and taste a variety of dishes made from the freshest local ingredients - check event website for details.

Moon Festival -- Authentic Mid-Autumn Feast
Every year people the world over mark harvest time. In Yingbeigou we are close to nature and, along with our village neighbors, we celebrate the Moon Festival with a feast at Xiaolumian. Red lanterns, moon viewing, crisp fall evening, honest food, live folk music. One year it rained and we all crowded into our little peasant's hut and somehow the food and company were even better. Share a traditional Chinese holiday with your family and friends -- an adventure they're sure to remember. We also have several rental homes near Xiaolumian so why not make a weekend of it? This event was sold out in 2009 so we suggest you mark your calendars and book early.
